February 16, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas - The Las Vegas Wranglers have claimed forward Shawn Skelly off waivers from the Alaska Aces. The Walled Lake, MI native has posted 14 points in 28 games (5G, 9A) with the Aces this season
Skelly, 27, graduated Adrian College in 2010-11 and posted a whopping 229 total points in 113 Division III games with the Bulldogs. The forward amassed 47 total power-play goals during his four years at Adrian, good for sixth all-time in the NCAA Division III record books. Immediately after finishing his collegiate career the 5-foot-10 forward joined the Fort Worth Brahamas of the CHL, appearing in two playoff games before the season concluded.
The following year, Skelly began the season with the Mississippi Surge of the SPHL, appearing in 52 games and posting 46 points (20G, 26A) before playing in his first two professional games with the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL.
In 2012-13 Skelly again started the campaign in the SPHL with the Surge before heading over to the Augusta RiverHawks, where he scored 13 goals to go along with 13 assists in 26 games. From there, the Michigan native headed to Alaska, totaling 14 points in 19 games with the Aces. Skelly then finished the season with the Bakersfield Condors, tallying two assists in two games.
"He can help us," said Las Vegas Wranglers Head Coach Mike Madill. "We have played against him and he has done well. He can find the net."
All told, Skelly has appeared in 50 career ECHL games, posting 30 total points (12G, 18A). He is expected to make his debut Sunday night against the Colorado Eagles in the Wranglers' third annual Midnight Circus game.
