WORCESTER, M.A. - A three-run rally in the ninth and a passed ball gave the Worcester Red Sox (46-37) a walkoff 7-6 victory over the Syracuse Mets (29-54) on Tuesday in the opener of a 14-game homestand at Polar Park.

The WooSox trailed 6-4 entering the bottom of the ninth inning, and Jeremy Rivera led off the frame with a walk against Syracuse reliever Roel Ramirez. After a popout, Yairo Muñoz singled, and Delino DeShields walked to load the bases for Joey Meneses. Playing in his first game at Polar Park, Meneses came through with a two-run single to left to tie the game and put DeShields on third as the winning run. Ramirez then threw a pitch that bounced off the glove of catcher Chance Cisco, and DeShields sprinted home to give Worcester a walkoff victory in front of 6,231.

Hours earlier, the Mets opened the scoring with a two-run second inning versus starter Connor Seabold. Khalil Lee homered off Seabold with one out, a towering solo shot that got over the leap of the centerfielder DeShields. That was followed by a single, a groundout and a hit-by-pitch before Payton doubled down the left field line to make it 2-0 Mets.

Worcester got on the board in the third inning on an RBI double by Joey Meneses, playing in his Polar Park debut, and trailed 2-1 coming in to the bottom of the fourth. After an out to start the frame, Tate Matheny delivered his team's third hit of the day-Matheny hit a ball hard to left and reached second base just ahead of a tag, notching his eighth Triple-A double. Four pitches later, Jeremy Rivera tied the game with a single to right, scoring Matheny. Ryan Fitzgerald was next, and he worked the count to 3-2 before blasting his first homer at Polar Park: a two-run job over the Worcester Wall in right to put his team on top 4-2. But Syracuse answered back in the sixth, opening the inning with back-to-back doubles against Seabold, including an RBI two-bagger by Wilfredo Tovar. That was the final pitch of the day for the WooSox starter, as Matt Hall entered and allowed a run on a Payton sac-fly to tie the game at four.

Seabold's line closed at five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts.

After Hall, Ryan Brasier saw his first action of 2021. The right-hander, who was struck in the head by a line drive during a simulated game in early June, returned to the mound to throw a 10-pitch, scoreless seventh inning.

Wilfredo Tovar began a Syracuse threat in the eight with a one out walk. With Seth Blair on the mound, Tovar stole second and third, then trotted home on an RBI single to right by Orlando Calixte to put the Mets on top 5-4. Calixte swiped second during the next at-bat, and after a strikeout, came home on a Mark Payton single to make it 6-4. Austin Brice came in, got the final out of the inning and added a runless ninth before Worcester walked it off in the ninth.

The WooSox continue the six-game series Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. against the Syracuse Mets at Polar Park. Television coverage is on NESN, while radio coverage starts live at 11:45 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network. Worcester's Raynel Espinal (8-3, 4.16) gets the start again Jerad Eickhoff (6-1, 4.85).
