Woodchucks Take over First Place with Come-from-behind Win

Wausau, WIS - The Wisconsin Woodchucks erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning defeating the Kalamazoo Growlers, 10-5 as they are now leading the South Division based on winning percentage.

The Woodchucks' bats were held at bay for the early part of the game. They erupted, however, in the bottom of the fifth inning when eight runners came into score off six hits. With the Growlers clinging to a 4-0 lead, Jake Jefferies came into score on a ground out to third by CJ Chatham. Jack Klages came to the plate with two runners on and hit his first home run of the season to deep center field to tie the game at four. The Woodchucks weren't done there when Nick Banks gave them a 5-4 lead on a single to the right-center field gap bringing in Tyler Stieb. Three more runners came into score during the inning as the Woodchucks brought 12 batters to the plate in the inning.

The Woodchucks used a total team effort tonight as six different players recorded RBIs during the game. Leading them in that category for the night was Jack Klages who brought in four total runs including his three-run home run.

The Woodchucks bullpen shut down the Growlers for the remainder of the game as they only surrendered one more run. The Woodchucks tacked on two more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning reaching the final score of 10-5.

The Woodchucks are now in first place in the South Division based on winning percentage as they have won their ninth straight game at Athletic Park.

The Woodchucks will travel to Green Bay to take on the Bullfrogs on Wednesday night. The Woodchucks and Bullfrogs will return to Athletic Park on Thursday, June 19. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
