Madison Mallards News Release
Mequon, WI - June 16, 2014. The Madison Mallards (12-8) dropped game two of their doubleheader tonight against the Lakeshore Chinooks (14-6) at Kapco Park in Mequon. The Mallards offense was held to just four hits in the 2-0 loss.
Mallards starter Sterling Sharp (Eastern Michigan) pitched five innings, giving up two runs on seven hits while striking out six. Sharp is second among all pitchers in the Northwoods League South Division with 22 strikeouts.
The Chinooks scored their only two runs in the third inning off a single by Carter White (Memphis). Chinooks relief pitcher Luke Lowrey (Southern Mississsippi) then retired three of the four Mallards he faced in the seventh to finish a doubleheader sweep of the Mallards.
In game one of tonight's twin bill, the Mallards lost 5-4. Brett Siddall (Canisius) put the Chinooks up two in the bottom of the sixth with a two run homer, and the Mallards responded with one run in the seventh to make it 5-4 after first baseman Pete Alonso (Florida) homered to left, but Lakeshore closer Andrew Elliot (Wright State) put down the next three Mallard batters to get the save.
The Mallards return home tomorrow to begin a three game home stand against the Chinooks at 7:05 pm. Tuesday night is Superhero Night, and kids 12 and under in costume get a free standing room only ticket. It is also Rayovac Night with a Rayovac Giveaway.
