Defense, Pitching Lead Mallards Past Chinooks

Madison, WI - June 17, 2014. Mallards second baseman Robbie Tenerowicz (California) went 2-for-3 with one RBI and contributed stellar defensive play to lead the Madison Mallards (13-9) over the Lakeshore Chinooks (14-8) by a score of 1-0 at the "Duck Pond."

Tenerowicz singled in the bottom of the second to drive in third baseman Trent Higginbothem (North Florida) from third for the Mallards only run and showed off his range at second in the third inning on a diving stab moving to his right to turn a 4-6-3 double play. With his RBI tonight, he moves into second place on the team with 12 RBI behind first baseman Pete Alonso (Florida).

On the mound for the Mallards, AJ Bogucki (North Carolina) tossed five shutout innings, giving up four hits while striking out four Chinooks in his first win, and first start with the club. Tom Constand (Western Illinois) came on in his first relief appearance in the sixth and was steady for the Mallards, pitching two scoreless innings. Tim Black (Central Michigan) received his sixth save of the season after pitching two innings, giving up one hit and retiring six of the eight batters he faced in the eighth and ninth. Black is now tied for the Northwoods League lead in saves.

Tomorrow, the Mallards stay at the "Duck Pond" to begin a two game series against the Battle Creek Bombers (10-12) at 7:05 pm. Wednesday night is Oscar Mayer Bacon Appreciation Night.
