Alexandria, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors defeated the Rox Monday night at Knute Nelson Memorial Park by a score of 5-3. The victory gives the Anchors a 4-17 record in the first half.
St. Cloud struck first in the top of the second as Boo Vazquez singled with one out and went to second on a Kyle Thornell walk. Harrison Wenson singled to load the bases and a fielder's choice by Eric Loxtercamp brought in Vazquez to give the Rox a 1-0 lead.
The Blue Anchors responded in bottom of the fourth. Kris Goodman singled and went to third on a Roman Collins double to right field. Collins would score on an Aaron Gretz ground out and Collins scored on a Ricky Sanchez grounder giving Alexandria a 2-1 lead. The offense wasn't done though. Ryan Busch deposited a ball deep into left-center field for a solo homer to make the score 3-1.
Things got tight in the top of the sixth when St. Cloud third baseman Chris Paul hit a solo home run of his own closing their gap to 3-2.
The offense for the Blue Anchors got right back to scoring in their half of the sixth. Goodman and Collins got the inning started again with back-to-back base hits and the bases were loaded after Gretz walked. Sanchez collected another RBI by bringing in Collins with a sac fly increasing the Anchors' lead to 5-2.
The Rox put together one last rally in the seventh against reliever Austin Smith. Wenson hit a leadoff double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Loxtercamp brought in Wenson with a sacrifice fly and give St. Cloud their third run but that was all they could muster up as the Anchors won 5-3.
