August 3, 2018 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Wausau Woodchucks News Release
Wausau, WIS - The Wisconsin Woodchucks wrapped up their last game of their long road trip tonight at Simmons Field in Kenosha. The Kingfish pulled ahead early with a 4-0 lead with Alex Stodola walking three batters and the defense committing two errors in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Chucks had active bats through the 4th inning but were unable to get runners on the board until the 5th inning when a much needed score was brought in by an error.
Ricardo Garcia came in at the bottom of the 2nd to hold the Kingfish to four runs. He had just two strikeouts and with the help of the Woodchucks defense was able to put up a defensive front through the bottom of the 7th.
The Chucks bats came to play in the 7th inning to tie up the game as Reese Alexiades stepped up to the plate and drove in the first RBI. Alexiades was followed by Mike Ferri who drove in the remaining runs with an RBI double.
Mason Cole took over on the mound in the 7th inning with a runner at 3rd, giving up one run on a wild pitch to give the Kingfish the lead. Javier Valdes hit a home run in the 9th inning to tie the game at 5-5. After that, Lenny Gwizdala came in to close, but the Woodchucks ended up falling 6-5.
Top Performers
Mike Ferri's bat was hot early with a base hit to help get the Chuck's bats going. Ferri's double was responsible for the two runs brought in to tie up the game in the 7th inning and helped light a fire under the Woodchucks bats.
Reese Alexiades also found the ball tonight with three base hits, a double, and an RBI. He found himself stranded on base unable to score but contributed to the defensive effort with several catches in center field.
