
Bullfrogs Sweep Rivets in Second Straight Comeback Win

Loves Park, Ill. - After trailing by two runs in the sixth inning, the visiting Green Bay Bullfrogs (25-39, 13-15) scored six straight runs in the next two frames to secure the two-game sweep over the host Rockford Rivets (27-36, 9-20) at Rivets Stadium Friday night. The Frogs come back from two runs down for the second consecutive game.
The Bullfrogs struck first on a RBI ground out from Blaise Maris (Sophomore, Florida Tech) to take an early 1-0 lead. Rockford took back the lead 2-1 on a RBI single by Kian O'Brien and a RBI fielder's choice from Parker Bates.
Keaton Smith (Junior, Nevada) blasted his second home run of the season in the fourth inning on a 3-2 count with two outs, tying the contest at 2-2. The Rivets answered quickly in the following frame with a RBI single by Parker Kelly to put the hosts back in front 3-2.
Rockford tacked on an insurance run in the fifth on Brendan Krob's RBI single to make it 4-2. Riley Mihalik (Junior, Rider Univ.) scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning to cut the deficit down to 4-3, but Jacob Vander Wal notched a RBI walk in the bottom of the sixth to stretch the lead to 5-3.
Green Bay stormed back with a huge five-spot in the seventh to give the Bullfrogs an 8-5 advantage. The rally began with a RBI double from Preston Pavlica (Junior, Grand Canyon Univ.) followed by a RBI single from Maris to knot the score at 5-5. The Frogs took back the lead on a Mihalik sacrifice fly to left field to put the visitors ahead 6-5.
Two additional runs came across on Alejandro Gonzalez's RBI single scoring Maris and Blake Nelson (Junior, Michigan) scored on an error to put the Bullfrogs up by three runs. Another insurance run scored on an error pitcher to make it a 9-5 Green Bay lead. Mihalik led the Green Bay offense going 2-for-3 with a RBI and a pair of singles. Maris drove in two runs in a 1-for-5 effort Pavlica scored three runs, finishing 1-for-3 at the plate with his RBI double.
Green Bay relief pitcher Jason Applegate (Junior, Villanova) earned the win, improving to 4-2. Applegate allowed just one hit and one run through four innings of work with three strikeouts. Rockford reliever Cole Jepsen took the loss, falling to 0-1.
The Green Bay Bullfrogs return home tomorrow night, beginning a two-game home-and-home series against the Lakeshore Chinooks. First pitch for tomorrow's game is slated for a 6:35 p.m. start at Joannes Stadium.
