Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves strong pitching continued on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park as they shut out the Trenton Thunder 1-0 to win their second straight game.

Erie, fresh off of a 2-1 win on Sunday in Altoona, continued to pitch through key situations as the club has combined to allow just one run over the last 23 innings pitched.

The game's lone run came in the bottom of the seventh inning against Trenton reliever Josh Schmidt. Bryan Pounds led off the inning with a walk and moved to third base on a pair of wild pitches. With one out, Bryan Holaday extended his hitting streak to 11 consecutive games with a single to center, scoring Pounds for a 1-0 lead. The 11-game hit streak is the longest of the season by a SeaWolves hitter. It is the longest active hitting streak in the Eastern League.

Both starters were superb in the game. Manny Banuelos and Casey Crosby each tossed six scoreless innings in taking no-decisions. It was the second time this season that Crosby went six or more innings without allowing a run. He allowed four hits with three walks and three strikeouts while lowering his ERA to 3.79.

Erie's bullpen combined to toss the final three innings of the game without allowing a hit. The only hiccup was the five walks allowed by the 'Wolves relievers.

Jared Gayhart (2-0) earned the win going 1.1 innings. Zach Simons and Chance Ruffin went the final 1.2 innings to close out the shutout win. Ruffin picked up his fifth save and second in as many games.

The shutout was the SeaWolves third of the season.

The 'Wolves will look for three straight and the series win on Wednesday night against Trenton.6:35 First Pitch. Righty L.J. Gagnier (3-2, 3.86 ERA) takes the mound for the 'Wolves against Shaeffer Hall (2-3, 3.43 ERA).
