B-Mets Drop Rainy Contest in New Hampshire, 7-1

MANCHESTER, NH - Binghamton was limited to just three hits by Joel Carreno and three other New Hampshire hurlers in the B-Mets' 7-1 loss at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium Tuesday night amidst a steady mist of rain. Brandon Moore suffered his second straight loss. He allowed seven runs on seven hits over four innings.

The Fisher Cats pounced on Moore in the first inning. Adeiny Hechavarria reached base with one out on a fielding error by third baseman Eric Campbell. Anthony Gose joined him aboard with a single to center. Mike McDade followed and drove both men in with a no-doubt homer to right to put New Hampshire in front 3-0. It was McDade's fifth blast of the season.

The Fisher Cats were back at in the second. Moore walked the leadoff hitter, John Tolisano, to get the inning started off on the wrong foot. A wild pitch moved the runner up to second and Darin Mastrioanni singled him to third with one out to put runners at the corners. Hechavarria got the Fisher Cats back in the run column with a clean single to left, which chased home Tolisano. Anthony Gose made it three straight singles when he rapped one up the middle to drive in Mastroianni. Moises Sierra capped the inning with an RBI fielder's choice to center, which gave the Fisher Cats a commanding 6-0 lead.

New Hampshire (23-14) wrapped up its scoring in the fourth, Moore's final inning. Mastroianni led off with a double to right. After Hechavarria grounded out, Gose singled to center to score the runner from second and advance the lead to 7-0.

Binghamton (13-22) plated its lone run in the sixth. Carreno had allowed just one hit through five innings. The right-hander walked Josh Satin with one out. After Salomon Manriquez flied out, Carreno served up a two-out double to Brahiam Maldonado. The shot landed over the head of the leftfielder, Mastroianni, which allowed Satin to motor around from first and score.

Carreno earned his second straight win by limiting the B-Mets to a run on two hits over 6 1/3 innings. He tied a season-high with eight strikeouts.

Binghamton's bullpen was a bright spot as Brandon Sage, Eric Niesen and Rhiner Cruz combined to throw four, scoreless innings after Moore's departure.

The second game of the three-game set is slated for Wednesday at 7:05 PM. LHP Mark Cohoon (1-2, 2.74) will start for Binghamton against RHP Zach Stewart (2-2, 4.10) of New Hampshire. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show begins at 6:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
