Sudbury Wolves News Release

The Sudbury Wolves hosted the Windsor Spitfires at the Sudbury Arena Friday night for the one and only time this season. The Wolves came out on fire putting on a stellar performance to shut-out the Spitfires 3-0.

Despite the Wolves only facing off against the Windsor Spitfires twice per season, the game had a high level of intensity. Bad blood started right from puck drop, with two hard fought fights in the first 10 minutes. NATHAN PANCEL was the first to drop the gloves when he mixed it up with Windsor's TREVOR MURPHY. JONATHON MASTERS responded to a big hit by dropping the gloves with LOGAN STANLEY just a few minutes later, which helped set the tone for the remainder of the game. CHAD HEFFERNAN notched his first goal as a member of the Sudbury Wolves just over 15 minutes into the first frame when he scored short-handed to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead. Shots on goal at the end of the first period were 18-15 in favour of the Wolves.

The Wolves got off on the right foot in the second period when Wolves' forward MATT SCHMALZ put a power play goal past Windsor's goalie ALEX FOTINOS just over two minutes in to give the Wolves a 2-0 lead. The intensity continued throughout the second period with BRADY PATAKI got mixed up with overage forward SLATER DOGGETT.

DANNY DESROCHERS added an empty net goal in the third to seal the vicotry for the Wolves and give them the 3-0 victory. First star of the game, TROY TIMPANO robbed the Spitfires multiple times throughout the game and made 43 saves to get the shut-out in net. Final shots on net were 43 to 33 in favour of the Spitfires.

The Wolves are back in action Saturday night as they continue their 5 game homestand. The Wolves will host the Kingston Frontenacs for the one and only time this season. Game time is 7:00pm. Saturday is the annual Travelodge Teddy Bear Toss. Fans are reminded to bring a Teddy Bear to tomorrow's game to throw on the ice when the Wolves score their first goal. All the Teddy Bears will be donated to TD Toy Drive. The Wolves will also be dedicating this Saturday night's game in memory of Liam Kirkwood who passed away last year at the age of 18 from cancer. Tickets have been donated by the Wolves to local community groups to assist in raising funds for the Childrens Wish Foundation in support of Kids with Cancer.

Tickets are available at www.greatersudbury.ca or the Sudbury Arena Box Office after 4:00pm on Saturday.
