Chicago Wolves News Release
DES MOINES, Iowa - Chicago Wolves forward Rob Bordson scored two power-play goals and went to the ice to block two slap shots while killing a 5-on-3 power play to highlight the Wolves' 5-1 victory over the Iowa Wild on Sunday afternoon at Wells Fargo Arena.
Defenseman Chris Butler and forwards Shane Harper and Cody Beach also scored goals for the Wolves (8-2-2-0) while goaltender Jordan Binnington stopped 28 of 29 shots to earn his third consecutive win.
The Wolves opened the scoring at 5:57 of the first as a vigorous forecheck forced a turnover in the offensive zone. Butler intercepted a hurried pass just inside the blue line and wristed a shot past Johan Gustafsson's stick for the unassisted goal.
Chicago boosted its lead to 2-0 at 9:23 of the first as Bordson buried a power-play goal from the top of the left circle. Defensemen Jake Chelios and Brent Regner set up Bordson's fourth goal of the year.
The Wolves pushed the margin to 3-0 at 10:07 of the second when forward Benn Ferriero ripped the puck away from an Iowa defenseman behind the Wild net, skated along the left boards and found Harper flashing into the slot for a quick snap shot.
Chicago increased the lead to four goals at 13:16 in the second period as Bordson needed to sweat out an official replay before earning credit for another power-play goal. This one was triggered by a Chelios shot and a Broadhurst rebound as the Wolves crashed the net.
Iowa (2-10-0-0) ruined Binnington's shutout bid with 2:23 to go on Zack Mitchell's power-play tally, but Beach's power-play goal with two seconds left restored the winning margin to four. Gustafsson (2-6-0) rejected 26 of 31 shots for the Wild.
The Wolves' nine-game road trip resumes with a 6 p.m. contest on Wednesday at North Division leader Utica. They return to Allstate Arena on Saturday, Nov. 22, for Epilepsy Awareness Night, presented by Heidenhain, featuring a free commemorative Wendell Young T-shirt for the first 2,500 fans.
