Marlies Fall in Overtime to Barons 4-3
November 9, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Toronto Marlies News Release
The Toronto Marlies were in tough Saturday night, playing in Oklahoma City for their third game in four nights. Toronto would enter the contest without three of their five leading scorers; missing Trevor Smith, Spencer Abbott and Josh Leivo. The first period scoring opened with Brad Ross, who continued his strong play since being recalled from the ECHL, capitalizing on an opportunity set up by Greg McKegg and Troy Bodie. The Barons would respond when former Marlie Captain Ryan Hamilton scored his fifth goal of the season midway through the first. Before the period expired, Toronto would retake the lead when Brad Ross' fore-checking set up Greg McKegg for his third goal of the year. The second period saw an aggressive Barons attack which would lead to 21 shots surrendered in the period by the Marlies. Two of those 21 shots would prove fortuitous for Brad Hunt who would score twice giving the Baron's a one goal lead. While the third continued to see the Baron's generate chances, it would be Toronto's Tyler Biggs scoring the lone goal of the period to force overtime. In overtime, Oklahoma continued to push the play offensively directing 8 more shots Cal Heeter's way. Signed to a Professional Try-out on November 6th, Heeter would make 48 saves on the night including 7 in overtime. It would be the 8th shot in overtime and 52nd of the game from Curtis Hamilton that would find its way past Heeter to secure the win for OKC. The goal came with 22 second remaining in overtime and moved the Marlies to 5-5-1-0 on the season.
The Marlies travel back to Toronto for a week of practice before a meeting with the Rochester Americans in Rochester Friday November 14th at 7:05 p.m.
