Wolves Pavelec Named Player Of The Week

Chicago Wolves goaltender ONDREJ PAVELEC has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 22, 2009.

PAVELEC started four games in five days for Chicago, posting a 3-1-0 record, 1.25 goals-against average and a .963 save percentage in those outings, which includes recording a career-high 45 saves on 46 shots - 21 of which came in the third period - Sunday night against the American Hockey League-leading Manitoba Moose.

The 21-year-old netminder turned aside 129 of 134 shots and allowed only five goals during the four-game span, which includes holding opponents to one tally in each of his last three starts. Overall, he has held opponents to one or fewer goals nine times, which includes two shutouts, and has allowed two or fewer goals in 17 of his 26 outings with the Wolves this season.

The Kladno, Czech Republic, native, has notched a 13-12-1 record and ranks sixth in the AHL with a 2.41 goals-against average and holds ninth with a .918 save percentage during his second professional campaign this year. He has also backstopped 11 National Hockey League outings with the Atlanta Thrashers this season, registering a 3-6-0 record with a 3.55 goals-against average and .884 save percentage.

In recognition of his achievement, PAVELEC will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Wolves home game.
