SOUND TIGERS 5, PIRATES 2
It has been nearly two months since the Sound Tigers' offense has exploded for five goals. Behind the offensive punch of Ben Walter's two goals, including the game-winner, the Sound Tigers beat the Portland Pirates this afternoon by the score of 5-2. Pascal Morency opened the scoring in the first period with his first tally of the season and Mike Iggulden and Tyler Haskins also added goals in the victory.
Colin Murphy and Felix Schutz had the two tallies for the Pirates. In goal for the Sound Tigers this afternoon was Nathan Lawson who earned his 13th win of the season, making 21 saves on 23 shots. The Sound Tigers now have a 33-17-3-4 record which gives them 73 points in the East Division and moves them within two points of the second place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
FALCONS 3, SOUND TIGERS 2 (SO)
With the Sound Tigers trailing 2-1 to the Springfield Falcons late in the third period, it was captain, Mark Wotton coming to his team's aid, tying the score at 2-2 but the Falcons would earn the extra point in the shootout to beat the Sound Tigers 3-2 tonight at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, MA. Chris Lee opened the game's scoring in the second period on his third goal of the season.
In the third, Rob Schremp and Viacheslav Trukhno tallied for the Falcons. Both teams would score twice in early rounds of the shootout but it was Shane Willis recording the game's deciding goal in the tenth round to win the game for the Falcons. The Sound Tigers earn a point in the shootout loss as their record goes to 32-17-3-4, giving them 71 points, four behind the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for second in the East Division.
SOUND TIGERS 1, WOLF PACK 0
Nathan Lawson saw a barrage of shots and words come his way all game from the Hartford Wolf Pack but he was able to fend them all off, stopping 23 shots to earn his second shutout of the season and give the Sound Tigers a 1-0 win. The Sound Tiger net-minder got into two separate confrontations with Wolf Pack instigator Sean Avery throughout the contest but was able to keep his head and deny Hartford the tying goal late in the game.
Kurtis McLean scored the only goal of the game in the opening period. The Sound Tigers improve to 32-17-3-3 and now have 70 points, three behind the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for second place in the East Division.
