HOME TEAM IN CAPS
FRISCHMON AN IRON MAN: Standing at 6-0 and weighing in at 200 lbs, Trevor Frischmon might not be the player you think is the active leading iron man for the Syracuse Crunch, but he is just that.
Frischmon has played in 90 consecutive regular season games for the Crunch dating back to last season. If you count all of the Crunch's 13 playoff games from last year that he also skated in, that brings his total to 103 consecutive games.
Frischmon appeared in the final 30 regular season games of last year and is the only Crunch player to have played in all 57 contests this season. His active games played streak can be attributed to hard work and staying in great shape.
Frischmon has a reputation as being one of the most physically fit players on the team, which surely helped him have extra energy in overtime in Game Six of last year's North Division Semifinals when he notched the series-clinching goal to send Syracuse to the second round of the Calder Cup Playoffs.
A native of Ham Lake, Minnesota, Frischmon has tallied two goals, 13 assists and 33 penalty minutes this season, while also skating on the Crunch's top penalty killing unit.
HOLDEN TALLIES FIRST PROFESSIONAL GOAL: It takes some players longer to notch their first professional goal than others. In the case of rookie Crunch defenseman Nick Holden, it took 38 games, but couldn't have come at a better time.
With the score tied at 1-1 in the third period of Sunday's game in Hamilton, Holden saw an opportunity to jump into the play. He skated down the middle, took a pass from Nikita Filatov and wristed a shot past Marc Denis to give the Crunch a 2-1 lead.
That marker, his first of the season and first as a professional was a memorable one as it proved to be the game-winner as the Crunch went on to a 3-1 win.
A native of St. Albert, Alberta, Holden, 21, has appeared in 38 games for the Crunch this season, notching one goal, eight assists and 32 penalty minutes.
THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS:
LAKE ERIE MONSTERS (COLORADO AVALANCHE): The Crunch travel to Cleveland Wednesday to take on the Lake Erie Monsters at 7 p.m. for the sixth of eight overall meetings and final of four match-ups at Quicken Loans Arena. The road team has taken four of the five games so far in the season series and the Crunch are 1-3-1 against the Monsters this year. Five (5) players have tallied two points for the Crunch against Lake Erie, while Codey Burki and Chris Mueller lead the Monsters and all players in the season series with three points (1g, 2a) each. Dan LaCosta is 1-3-0 with a 2.14 goals against average and .919 save percentage against Lake Erie this season, while Lake Erie's Tyler Weiman is 3-0-0 with a 0.67 goals against average and .973 save percentage.
GRAND RAPIDS GRIFFINS (DETROIT RED WINGS): The Crunch welcome in the Grand Rapids for the second time in two weeks, and the fourth and final meeting between these two clubs this year. The Crunch are 2-1-0-0 against the Griffins, winning both of their games in shootouts. Derek MacKenzie leads the Crunch with two points (1g, 1a), while seven Griffins players have also notched two points. Despite a 0.95 goals against average and .965 save percentage against the Crunch this year, Syracuse native Jimmy Howard is 1-0-2 against his hometown team.
ALBANY RIVER RATS (CAROLINA HURRICANES): The Albany River Rats come to the Salt City Saturday night for their third of four visits to the War Memorial at Oncenter and sixth of eight overall match-ups. The Crunch are 3-2-0-0 against Albany this year and have won the last seven meetings in Syracuse dating back to the 2006-07 season. Nikita Filatov (1g, 3a), Derek MacKenzie (1g, 3a) and Mike York (4a) have all tallied four points each against the Rats this season. Sebastian Dahm is 2-1-0 with a 1.17 goals against average and .962 save percentage against Albany. Mike Angelidis leads all River Rats scorers with four goals while Justin Peters is 1-2-1 with a 1.97 goals against average and .937 goals against average against the Crunch.
