
'Wolves Lose Late Lead and Game 6-5

The SeaWolves failed to hold a late lead as they dropped their fourth straight game on Saturday night at Blair County Ballpark, 6-5, to the Altoona Curve. The loss streak is the longest of the season for the 'Wolves.
Erie took the lead in the top of the fourth inning against Curve starter Michael Colla. Brandon Douglas led off with a single, Rawley Bishop walked and Bryan Pounds singled to load the bases. With one out, Audy Ciriaco singled home Douglas for a 1-0 lead.
Altoona took the lead in the bottom of the fourth against Erie starter Jacob Turner. Jeremy Farrell lead off and was hit by a pitch. Tony Sanchez doubled home Farrell tying the game. Sanchez would come home on a one-out Miles Durham single for a 2-1 lead.
The SeaWolves came back to tie the game in the top of the seventh. With two outs, Justin Henry walked and stole his fifth base of the season to get into scoring position. Jamie Johnson singled home Henry, tying the game at 2-2.
The Howlers then took the lead in the top of the eighth against reliever Anthony Claggett. Douglas led off with a double for his third of four hits. Bishop sacrificed Douglas over to third and he came home to score on a Pounds double for a 3-2 lead. Bryan Holaday followed with a single, extending his hitting streak to 10 straight games. Audy Ciriaco singled home pinch runner Shawn Roof for a 4-2 lead. Michael Bertran then slapped a double down the left field line, plating Holaday for a 5-2 lead.
The Erie lead was short lived as the Curve came right back in the bottom of the eighth against reliever Chance Ruffin. With one out, Quincy Latimore walked and Jordy Mercer slammed his seventh home run, cutting it to a one-run game at 5-4. Farrell singled and scored on a Sanchez triple to make it a 5-5 game. Kris Watts singled home the go-ahead run completing a four-run Altoona eighth.
Erie could not mount a comeback in the ninth, stranding the games tying and winning runs in scoring position, falling 6-5.
Turner took the no-decision for the SeaWolves allowing two runs on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts in seven innings of work.
The 'Wolves look to avoid the sweep on Sunday afternoon.2:00 First Pitch. Righty Mark Sorensen (2-2, 4.76 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Aaron Pribanic (3-1, 2.91 ERA).
