Trenton Thunder News Release

(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder (19-17) lost for just the sixth time in 20 home games in 2011, falling to the Binghamton Mets (13-20) 3-2 in front of 6,334 Saturday night at Waterfront Park. Carlos Silva hurled six, strong innings but Allan Dykstra hit a two-run homerun in the top of the ninth to give the B-Mets a 3-2 lead that they would not surrender. Ray Kruml hit his first homerun of the season for the Thunder in the loss.

Binghamton grabbed the early lead for the third time in as many games in the series, but the Thunder would once again answer back. Trailing 1-0, Jose Pirela led off the bottom of the third with a double into the gap in right-center field. Two batters later, Addison Maruszak knocked a single to right to knot the score at one apiece.

Ray Kruml broke the 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth when he hit a solo homerun to right field off of Mets' starter Robert Carson. It was Kruml's first homerun this season and first since July 12, 2010, when Kruml was a member of the Tampa Yankees.

Making his first appearance in a Thunder uniform and his third in the Yankees organization since being signed in early April, Silva was dominant for his six innings on the mound. The former Major League pitcher surrendered just one unearned run and three hits.

The Thunder will wrap their seven-game homestand with a 1:05 PM contest on Sunday with the Binghamton Mets in the finale of the four-game series. Yankees top pitching prospect Dellin Betances (2-1, 1.00) will take the Waterfront Park mound for the Thunder. Betances will oppose Binghamton right-hander Jeurys Familia (0-0, 1.29). Tune-in to the game on 91.3 WTSR-FM and on trentonthunder.com. The SBLI Pre-Game Show with Jay Burnham and Hank Fuerst begins at 12:45 PM.
