Reading Fightin Phils News Release
(Reading, PA) -- America's Classic Ballpark was filled with offense on Saturday evening. And, after the Reading Phillies were down by a score of 12-1, the club showed heart. Unfortunately, their late-inning surge came up short.
Anthony Gose and Mike McDade homered and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats survived a late rally with a 13-10 win over the Reading Phillies on Saturday evening in game four of their five-game series.
Gose, a former Phillies farmhand, finished the night 2-4 at the plate, and helped give the Fisher Cats their third win of the series. A native of Paramount, CA, Gose, 20, launched what was his first home run of the season and added four RBIs on the night. The speedy outfielder was selected by the Phillies in the second round of the 2008 draft, but was dealt on July 29 as part of the Roy Oswalt trade with Houston. He was dealt later that day to Toronto in exchange for Brett Wallace.
'Cats starter Chad Beck (4-0, 2.56) allowed four earned runs over 5.2 innings to earn the victory. The Texas native began the day with third-best ERA in the league (1.91) but struggled to get out of the sixth inning. He left the game with his club ahead by a score of 12-4. New Hampshire reliever Ron Uviedo allowed four runs on five hits over just 0.1 of an inning.
Josh Zeid (1-3, 6.28) started for Reading and allowed eight runs on six hits over just four innings The New Haven, CT native walked three batters and fanned five and was saddled with the loss - his third of the season.
Offensively, Reading belted out 16 hits on the evening, and four came off the bat of Michael Spidale, who finished the game 4-5 with three runs scored. It was the second-four-hit game of the season for Spidale. Matt Rizzotti ripped two hits and finished 2-4 with four RBIs on the evening. Stephen Susdorf also chipped in with three hits. Reading (21-15) scored four runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.
The two clubs will conclude their four-day, five-game homstand on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. RHP J.C. Ramirez (4-2, 2.81) gets the nod for Reading in Sunday's finale. Ramirez, a native of Managua, Nicaragua, was named as the Philadelphia Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Month for April. He enjoyed an outstanding April (4-0, 1.03), but is still looking for his first win in May. After two starts this Month, Ramirez is 0-2 with an 11.12 ERA.
On the hill for the Fisher Cats will be RHP B.J. LaMura (2-2, 2.73). LaMura, 30, beat the R-Phils back on May 5 in Reading, when he allowed four runs on four hits over five innings of work. So far this month, he's posted a 1-1 record with a 4.15 ERA in two starts.
Coverage begins with the R-Phils pre-game show at 12:35 p.m. with R-Phils play-by-play broadcaster Brian Seltzer. First pitch of Saturday's game is set for 1:05 p.m.
