
'Wolves Fall 7-5 To Curve

Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves fell to the Altoona Curve on Saturday at Blair County Ballpark, 7-5. The loss was Erie's first on the road trip. Altoona jumped ahead in the bottom of the first inning against Erie starter Luis Marte. Jim Negrych led off with a walk and Jose Tabata doubled to put runners on second and third. With one out, Jonel Pacheco grounded out but on the play, Negrych scored to make it 1-0 Altoona. Pedro Lopez followed with a two-out single to right, bringing home Tabata for a 2-0 lead.
The Curve extended the lead in the bottom of the second. Angel Gonzalez singled with two outs and he was doubled home by Negrych for a 3-0 lead. Negrych then scored on a Tabata single for a 4-0 Altoona lead.
The SeaWolves cut into the Curve lead in the top of the fourth against starter Mike Crotta. Ryan Strieby singled to left to start the inning. Deik Scram then singled to right an on an error by right fielder James Boone, Strieby advanced to third. Jeff Frazier followed and broke an 0-for-9 skid at the plate with a base hit, plating Strieby, making it a 4-1 game. Later in the inning with two outs, Max St. Pierre doubled home Frazier to cut the lead in half at 4-2.
Altoona would add a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, both unearned against Marte. Miguel Perez walked with one out and Boone was hit by a pitch to put a pair on base. Gonzalez then reached on an error by Scott Sizemore that loaded the bases for the top of the Curve lineup. Negrych grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Perez to make it 5-2 Curve. A wild pitch then scored Boone for a 6-2 lead. Both Altoona runs scored in the inning without the Curve getting a hit.
The score remained the same until the top of the eighth when Erie attempted to mount a comeback against reliever Jeff Seus. Strieby led off the inning with a double to left and he came in to score on a double by Scram to make it a 6-3 game. Frazier then stepped in and smashed his first home run of the season to make it a one-run game at 6-5. The home run for Erie was the first since the second game of the season.
Erie however, would get no closer as Altoona added a run in the bottom of the eighth to go by two and win by a score of 7-5.
Marte (0-2) went five innings in his second start for the 'Wolves allowing six runs, four earned, on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
