
Defenders Drops Second Straight To Trenton 5-2

NORWICH, CT- A pair of errors by both team s saw the Trenton Thunder surpass the Defenders for the second consecutive night 5-2 to take a 2-1 advantage in the four game series Saturday night in front of 3,496 at Dodd Stadium.
The Defenders reliever RHP-Dan Griffin couldn't find his way out of a bases loaded jam in the sixth as the Thunder would plate three runs and never look back.
Trenton would strike first in the top of third with a DH-Reegie Corona RBI single to score 2B-Justin Snyder. The Defenders responded in the fourth taking advantage of two consecutive Trenton errors as RF-Eddy Martinez-Esteve scored on a wild throw to first base by 3B-Marcos Vechionacci to tie the game 1-1.
The Thunder grew the lead to 4-1 in sixth off of Dan Griffin, as they had their turn at the Defenders pair of errors. Griffin (0-1) suffered his first loss after giving up just two hits in two innings but allowed three runs, two earned while walking one and striking out a solo batter.
Connecticut trimmed the deficit in half in seventh after CF-Mike Mooney delivered his second triple of the season down the right-field line and then scored on a wild pitch from Trenton's starter RHP- Ivan Nova.
Nova (1-0) made his double A debut and picked up the win as he checked in a solid performance allowing just a pair of runs, one earned off of five hits over the span of 6.1 innings, walked two and struck out four.
Defenders starter, RHP-Henry Sosa (0-0) tossed an impressive five innings of two hit ball, giving up just one earned run, walked two, while fanning five.
RHP-Kevin Whelan (0-0) picked up his first save of the season as he helped deliver a 1-6-3 game ending double play.
The final game of the series is tomorrow and slated for 1:05pm which will feature a matchup of the Defenders #1 starter RHP-Daryl Maday (0-0) and Trenton's RHP- Ryan Pope (0-0).
