
Offense Heating Up, Sea Dogs Pound Mets 12-4

(Binghamton, NY) - 1B Lars Anderson (RBI) and 3B Jorge Jimenez (HR, 3 RBI) each had four hits, pacing the Sea Dogs (6-4) 18-hit attack in their 12-4 blowout-victory on Saturday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. LHP Felix Doubront earned his first Double-A win as the Sea Dogs made it two straight wins over the B-Mets (4-4). The final game of the series is Sunday afternoon at 1:05 PM.
Doubront pitched five innings, allowing two runs on five hits in his first Double-A start on the road. Portland pounded losing pitcher Jose Sanchez (1-1) for nine runs on 10 hits in just 3+ innings.
The Sea Dogs received a multi-hit performance from 6 of 9 starters and went 11-for-22 with runners-in-scoring position. Jimenez drove in 3, LF Aaron Bates and SS Iggy Suarez each drove in two. B-Mets 3B Shawn Bowman went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI.
Portland jumped on Sanchez in the second inning with seven consecutive baserunners. Leading 1-0, Suarez smacked a 2-run double down the left-field line, scoring Jimenez and C Juan Apodaca (1-for-5). CF Josh Reddick (2-for-5) singled and DH Mark Wagner's (2-for-4) RBI single scored Suarez. The final run was added on a run-scoring double play ball by Bates.
Binghamton responded with two runs in the third inning off Doubront. RF Caleb Stewart walked to load the bases and Bowman followed with a 2-run single. The 'Dogs responded the next half inning, exploding for six runs on five hits in the top of the fourth. Sanchez left the game after allowing four consecutive runners to reach base - Reddick walked, Wagner was hit-by-pitch and RBI singles from Anderson and Bates. RHP Tim McNab relieved Sanchez and yielded a run-scoring single to RF Bubba Bell and a 3-run homer to Jimenez. Bates knocked in Portland's final run with a single off RHP Eric Brown (4.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER) in the fifth.
LHP Will Latimer made his Double-A debut for Portland and surrendered three hits and two runs (one earned) over 2 frames. The lefty, who appeared in on game last year due to injury, issued four walks and four hits. RHP Bryce Cox closed out the game with two scoreless innings.
Portland can win the 4-game series on Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium - game time is 1:05 PM. RHP Junichi Tazawa (1-1, 1.64) takes on RHP Ryan Coultas (0-1, 4.15). Notes...Jimenez has a 7-game hitting streak with at least one RBI - his 4-hit performance was his first in Double-A... Latimer's appearance was just his second in two years...Over the last two games, Binghamton's starting pitchers allowed 17 hits, 15 runs (all earned) over 6+ innings ...According to soxprospects.com the Red Sox signed former Connecticut Defender RHP Dave McKae.
