
Nova Added To Trenton's Roster

(Norwich, CT)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that RHP Ivan Nova has been added to Trenton's roster. Nova will make his Thunder debut on Saturday night at Connecticut. RHP Eric Wordekemper has been promoted to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A).
Nova was drafted in the second round (31st overall) by the San Diego Padres in the 2008 Rule V Draft. He was returned to the Yankees prior to the conclusion of Spring Training. Prior to being returned, he was listed as the 30th best prospect in the San Diego Padres Organization according to the Baseball America. In 2008, he appeared in 26 games (24 starts) for Tampa (High-A). He went 8-13 with a 4.36 ERA. He led the Tampa Pitching Staff and ranked second in the Florida State League in innings pitched (148.2). During 2007, he went 6-8 with a 4.98 ERA in 21 starts for Charleston (Low-A). He was originally signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent 7/15/04.
Wordekemper was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three games for Trenton in 2009. He split the 2008 season between Trenton and Tampa (High-A). In 33 games, he went 3-2 with a 3.93 ERA with six saves for the Thunder. He was 0-0 with a 10.80 ERA in two games for Tampa. In 2007, he was 2-0 with a 0.57 ERA with 33 saves in 43 games for Tampa. He was named the Florida State League Most Valuable Pitcher. He was selected by the Yankees in the 46th round of the 2005 draft. He played his college baseball at Creighton University.
Trenton plays the third game of a four-game series tonight against the Connecticut Defenders, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Game time is set for 6:35 p.m. Nova will be opposed by Connecticut RHP Henry Sosa (0-0, 2.25). Trenton returns home to Waterfront Park on Thursday April 23rd to start a four-game series against the New Britain Rock Cats, the Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins.
