Phillies Slam Senators 7-5

April 18, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Senators came up on the short end of things on Saturday night in falling to Reading 7-5. Mike Daniel had the Senators first five-hit game since Josh Whitesell had five hits against Erie in April 2007. Daniel had four singles and a home run, his second on the season. Brad Harman had four hits for Reading, and was a home run short of the cycle.

Marvin Lowrance hit his second home run for the Sens and also had an rbi double. Harrisburg scored single runs in five innings, but couldn't overcome the five run seventh inning by Reading. In the Reading seventh, they had four straight hits and a run before Kevin Mahar stepped to the plate and unloaded a grand slam out onto the pavilion in the left field. The ball cleared the new LED Ribbon Board in left field.

Reading starter Mike Stutes won for the second time in starts for Reading while Matt Avery lost the game in relief for the Sens to fall to 1-1. Javi Herrera chipped in two hits for the Sens including a single off the fence in left field. Daniel had two rbi's to go along with his five hits.

For the third straight game, the Senators had a large crowd of 4,510, which brings the three game total to 12,231 an average of over 4,000 a game.

The final game of the series is Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm with RH Luis Atilano taking the hill for the Sens opposed by RH Alex Concepcion for Reading.
