'Wolves Drop Two Straight

The SeaWolves fell in their second consecutive game on Saturday night against the Akron Aeros by a final of 7-5. The ‘Wolves have now lost three of their last four games.

The Aeros struck first in the top of the first inning against Erie starter Josh Rainwater. Josh Rodriguez led off with a walk and with one out, scored on a Wes Hodges single for a 1-0 lead.

The SeaWolves answered in the bottom of the second. Santo De Leon led off with a double and he scored on a wild pitch off of Akron starter Frank Herrmann to make it a 1-1 game.

Erie would then take the lead in the bottom of the third. James Skelton led off with his first of three walks. Casper Wells followed, laid down a bunt an he beat out the throw from Hodges at third. The ball went to the wall behind first and both runners got into scoring position. Wilkin Ramirez followed with an RBI single, giving Erie a 2-1 lead. Ryan Roberson hit a fly ball into center and the ball was dropped by Nathan Panther, Wells scored for a 3-1 lead. De Leon singled home Ramirez and Pedro Cotto doubled home Deik Scram, giving the SeaWolves a 5-1 advantage.

The lead remained four into the top of the fifth. With two outs, Rodriguez doubled, Bronson Sardinha singled and Hodges hit his 18th home to make it a 5-4 game in favor of the ‘Wolves.

The lead for the ‘Wolves held until the top of the seventh. Panther and Brandon Chaves both walked to start the inning. On a sacrifice bunt attempt against reliever Angel Castro, Rodriguez laid down a sacrifice bunt and a throwing error by De Lon allowed both Panther and Chaves to score to give Akron a 6-5 lead. Rodriguez later scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-5.

Akron's bullpen held Erie to one hit over the final three innings to hold on for a 7-5 win. Randy Newsom worked a scoreless ninth to pick up his 29th save and second in as many nights.

Rainwater (10-7) took the loss for the ‘Wolves going six innings, allowing six runs, four earned, on six hits with three walks and a strikeout.
