
Wolves Drop Season Opener

The Wolves opened up their season with an 8-1 loss to the Niagara IceDogs on home ice. The team was never able to recover after Niagara struck early and often. The top ranked team in the OHL was able to flex their muscle against the young Wolfpack.
Niagara's offence came fast and furious scoring four times in the 1st frame. The IceDogs carried the play for the majority of the 1st period over the young home team. Josh Ho-Sang and Anthony Difruscia led the charge for the IceDogs. Ho-Sang picked up two assists and added a goal on a breakaway, while Difruscia scored a goal and added two assists in the period. After the opening period, the shots were 19-4 in favour of Niagara.
Niagara kept their feet on the gas as they scored early in the 2nd. Following the goal, the Wolves put together a stronger effort and began to generate some chances. 1st overall pick in this past year's OHL Priority Selection, DAVID LEVIN, scored his first career OHL goal, and the first goal for the Wolves this season. PATRICK MURPHY and MICHAEL PEZZETTA picked up the assists. The Wolves scored the goal on the powerplay after some good offensive zone pressure. At the end of the 2nd period, shots were 30-16 for the IceDogs.
The IceDogs did not let up in the final period. They scored three goals in the frame to put the final exclamation mark on the game. Josh Ho-Sang, Anthony Difruscia, and Vince Dunn led the charge with a combined 10 points between the three players. Final shots were 46-25 for Niagara.
The Wolves continue Opening Weekend on Sunday, September 27th, when they play host to the Mississauga Steelheads. Game time is 2:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the Sudbury Community Arena Box Office beginning at 11am on Sunday or online at www.greatersudbury.ca.
A reminder to season ticket holders that the Wolves will be holding a BBQ prior to the game. The first 500 season ticket holders will recieve a free hot dog and bottle of water. There will also be free facepainting. Festivites begin at Noon.
