Brampton Steelheads News Release

MISSISSAUGA, ON - Donning a new primary logo, the Steelheads hosted the visiting Ottawa 67's to kick off the 2015-16 season in Mississauga. With plenty of new names looking to make an impact, it was clear from the drop of the puck that this Steelheads team had a new feel to it.

In front of a roaring crowd, it would be Nathan Bastian first on the score sheet, beating 67's goalie Leo Lazarev to put the Steelheads up 1-0. Assists on the opening goal went to Josh Burnside and Mike McLeod. Continuing to press, the Steelheads dictated the pace of place for most of the period. Newcomer Daniel Muzito-Bagenda made an early impression with his new team with a number of good chances in the first. Despite numerous scoring opportunities, the period ended with the Steelheads up 1-0. Shots on goal after 1 were 13-7 in favour of the Steelheads.

The Steelheads continued to pour on the offence in the second as Brendan Harrogate notched his first OHL goal just 6 minutes into the period with assists from Luke Kutkevicius and Jared Walsh. Two minutes later Marcus Dickerson got his first of the season, extending Mississauga's lead to three goals. Walsh and Kutkevicius both collected their 2nd assists of the night on the Dickerson marker. Newly-drafted, import pick, Daniel Muzito-Baganda added another unassisted goal before the period ended, chasing Ottawa goalie Leo Lazarev. Liam Herbst replaced Lazarev in net for the 67's. Shots on goals after two were 22-19 in favour of the Steelheads.

The third period started much like the 2nd, this time it was Burnside with his first of the year, finishing off a pretty passing play from Bastian and M.McLeod to put the Steelheads up 5-0. With the game out of reach, Bastian would pot his 2nd of the night with Walsh picking up his 3rd assist of the night. Walsh would cap off a 4 point night with his 1st of the year into the empty net. Acquired only hours prior to the game, Steelheads goalie Jack Flinn stood strong all night making key saves when called upon, earning his first win/shutout of the season, earning him 1st star honours. Final shots on goal were 31-19 in favour of the Steelheads.

The Steelheads hit the road for their first road trip of the season as they make the trip north to Sudbury on Sunday to take on the Wolves. The Steelheads will have another road game in Peterborough next Thursday before heading home on October 2nd to take on the Kingston Frontenacs.
