Attack Acquire Cianfrone and Dekoning
September 25, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack is announcing that they have completed two player transactions prior to this evenings season opener in Kitchener.
The Attack has traded overage goaltender Jack Flinn to the Mississauga Steelheads in exchange for overage forward Bryson Cianfrone (chee-an-fro-nee) and a 5th Round Draft Pick in the 2017 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection. In turn, the Attack has also acquired goaltender Daniel Dekoning from the Erie Otters in exchange for an 11th Round Draft Choice in the 2016 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection.
Cianfrone, a 5'8, 190lb Stoney Creek native spent the last two seasons with the Steelheads appearing in 131 regular season games, while notching 30 goals and 69 assists for 99 points. 52 of those 99 points came during the 2014/2015 campaign.
Dekoning, a 1996 born goaltender from Listowel, ON. appeared in 29 regular season games for the Otters last season, going 18-3-0-1 with a 3.05 Goals Against Average and an .897 save percentage. The 6'3 net minder also appeared in two playoff games, posting a .67 Goals Against Average and a .967 save percentage.
"Both Jack and Michael needed to play in a significant amount of games this season", stated Attack General Manager Dale DeGray. "By moving Jack to Mississauga, it allows him to play the amount of games required for his development and allows us to bring in an experience offensive player in Bryson. It's a win-win for all involved. Daniel is an experienced goaltender who will come in and provide some leadership in a back-up role, while pushing Michael at the same time."
Jack Flinn appeared in 65 regular season games for the Attack, posting a 21-26-2-10 record to go along with a 3.30 Goals Against Average and .904 save percentage. The 6'8 net minder was claimed off of waivers from the QMJHL in the fall of 2013 and has been with the Attack since that time.
"Jack is a good goaltender and an outstanding young man", said DeGray. "We've enjoyed having him as a part of our organization and watching him develop. We wish him nothing but the best moving forward."
Both Daniel and Bryson are expected to be in the Attack line-up tonight when Owen Sound travels to Kitchener.
