September 25, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs got off to a tremendous start to their 2015/16 season, picking up a huge 8-1 victory over the hometown Wolves in Sudbury on Friday night, with eight different IceDogs tallying the goals on the night!
Fresh off of signing his entry level contract with the St. Louis Blues, defenceman Vince Dunn got the IceDogs season off on the right foot, scoring just 1:14 in to make it 1-0. Fellow defenceman Blake Siebenaler would then get in on the action just over six minutes later to stretch the IceDogs lead to 2-0! The IceDogs high powered offence would not stop there as Josh Ho-Sang would add a highlight reel goal of his own to make it 3-0 prior to the midway point of the first. Newly minted captain IceDogs Anthony DiFruscia would score a powerplay marker before the end of the first, sending the IceDogs into their first intermission of the season with a commanding 4-0 lead. Shots in the first favoured the visitors by a remarkable 19-4 margin.
The strong start for the IceDogs would continue just 2:24 into the second, as new addition Nick Pastorious would pick up his first as an IceDog to make it 5-0. Sudbury would get one back on the powerplay to make it 5-1, but IceDogs starter Brent Moran would make sure that would be it for the frame, making 11 saves in the period to keep it at 5-1 after 40. Shots after two continued to favour Niagara 30-16.
The final frame would see the quick starts to periods continue as Jordan Maletta would get in on the action just 54 seconds into the period to make it a 6-1 game. Ryan Mantha would become the third IceDogs blueliner to find the back of the net at 13:14 and Matt Gillard would round out the scoring just over a minute later, becoming the eighth different IceDogs goal scorer in a big 8-1 IceDogs victory. Final shots were 46-25 IceDogs.
Brent Moran was solid in the win, stopping 24 shots for the victory.
