Sudbury Wolves News Release
The Sudbury Wolves were at home Friday night to take on the North Bay Battalion for their final regular season game of the season in front of a sold out crowd. Friday's game was a must win for the Wolves if they wanted to continue to race for the Central Division title.
The Battalion got on the board first just over a minute into the opening frame off the stick of MATT MACLEOD. ÃÂ The Battalion then took a 2-0 lead with 5 minutes remaining in the period. Wolves forward JACOB HARRIS tried to spark the Wolves shortly after by squaring off with defenceman KYLE LOCKE. Shots on goal after the first were 9-7 in favour of the Battalion.
HARRIS's fight seemed to have done its job as the Wolves came out flying in the second. NATHAN PANCEL notched his 42nd of the season and put the Wolves within one before CONNOR CRISPÃÂ tied the Wolves up with less than 30 seconds remaining in the second period. Shots on goal after the second were 23 to 22 in favour of the Wolves.
Eight minutes into the third and final frame, the Battalion would regain their lead on a goal by MATHEW SANTOS. MCKENZIE ÃÂ added his second of the game for the Battalion with 4 minutes in the period. BAPTISTE ÃÂ also added his second of the game for the Wolves 30 seconds late to give the Wolves another shot at winning before BARCLAY GOODROW sealed the fate with an empty net/shorthanded goal. Final shots on goal were 35- 34 in favour of the Battalion.
With tonight's loss, the Wolves are certain to face the Barrie Colts in the first round of the playoffs. The playoff schedule will be released following this weekend as home ice is still up for grabs. ÃÂ The Wolves will wrap up their regular season on the road as they visit the Belleville Bulls on Saturday night at 7:05pm before travelling to Oshawa on Sunday evening at 6:05pm. Fans can follow the Wolves on the road as they push for home ice advantage on KFM 95.50 or watch on Eastlink Channel 10.
