A trio of unlikely candidates scored in the third period to give the Whalers a 4-1 win over the Spitfires on the final night of the regular season Saturday before 2,946 at the Compuware Arena in Plymouth.

Vincent Scognamiglio (8:45) and Liam Dunda (12:26) each bagged their first career Ontario Hockey League goals to give the home side all the offense it needed.

Gianluca Curcuruto (7) and Bryce Yetman (2) also scored for Plymouth (28-33-0-7).

Ben Johnson (28) had the only goal for Windsor (37-28-3-0), which will face the London Knights in Round One of the 2014 OHL Playoffs, thanks to Erie's 8-4 win over Sarnia.

That series is set to start next week, although no date and time has been announced.
