Oshawa Generals News Release

The Generals returned to the General Motors Centre for their first game on home ice since clinching the Eastern Division Title last Sunday against Kingston. Coming off three losses on the road, the Generals were looking to get back in the win column when they took on the Bulls Friday night.

Oshawa fell to Belleville Wednesday night in a shootout and were looking to get an early lead after the drop of the puck. After both teams sent a man off for penalties, the boys played some 4-on-4. A little more open ice was all Scott Laughton needed to bury the opening goal. Laughton banged away at a loose puck in front of Belleville goaltender Charlie Graham to give the Generals an early 1-0 lead just four minutes and fifty one seconds into the opening frame. The goal stood as the only of the period giving Oshawa a 1-0 lead heading into the second.

Cameron Brace of the Bulls didn't waste much time tying the game at one, just twenty five seconds into the second period. Brace broke away alone to snipe the tying goal over Daniel Altshuller to make it a 1-1 game. Belleville then took the lead just over five minutes later when Jordan Subban buried the go ahead goal to put the Bulls up 2-1. The Generals countered with some power play opportunities, but none of their efforts could find the back of the net. A tense moment at the end of the second saw Hunter Smith get a four minute check-from-behind penalty that carried over into the third period setting the Generals up for a big kill to start the frame.

The Generals were only on the penalty kill for a short time before the Bulls took a too many men penalty that set up some open ice from the boys to play a little 4-on-4. Just as the penalties expired, Bradley Latour found some room to slip the tying goal five-hole on Graham to tie the game at two, three minutes and fifty two seconds into the third.

With the game still tied at the end of the third, teams headed to overtime. Halfway through the extra frame, a Generals hook sent Oshawa to a huge overtime penalty kill. The Gens didn't miss a step, even getting some short-handed opportunities. It came down until the final three seconds when Michael Dal Colle fired a rocket passed Graham to give the Generals the 3-2 win.

Oshawa is back in action Sunday night when they host the Sudbury Wolves for their last game of the regular season.
