GUELPH - The Guelph Storm clinched first place overall in the Ontario Hockey League with a 13-1 victory over the Sarnia Sting, Friday night before a sell-out crowd of 4,901 fans at the Sleeman Centre.

Sarnia has one game remaining as they travel to Erie on Saturday to take on the Otters.

The Storm took control of last night's game scoring four unanswered goals in the opening period.  Two of the goals came on the power play as Sarnia took all five minor penalties assessed in the period.

Guelph outscored the Sting 2-1 in the second period. Hayden Hodgson scored the Sarnia goal on a power play. He went in alone on a breakaway and snapped a low shot pass the netminder for his ninth goal of the season.

The Storm showed no mercy in the third period scoring seven times as they outshot Sarnia 27-3.

Overall Guelph held a 61-20 edge in shots on goal. Justin Nichols was the winning goalie while Brodie Barrick took the loss.

The Sting went into the game with just four regular defencemen, Jimmy McDowell, Josh Chapman, Kevin Spinozzi and Zachary Core. Forward Brandon Lindberg filled in as a fifth defencemen.

Sarnia had six regulars out of the lineup because of injury or suspension. They included defencemen Anthony DeAngelo, Connor Schlichting and Jeff King, along with forwards Dustin Brown, Alex Renaud, and Patrick White. (Renaud suffered a concussion in Thursday's win over Kitchener).

DeAngelo and King are eligible to return for the Sting's last game of the season.
