Wolves Blanked by Ortio, Flames

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. --- The Chicago Wolves were shut out for the first time this season as goaltender Joni Ortio and the Adirondack Flames captured the first meeting between the clubs 3-0 Tuesday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Three days after notching seven goals against Rochester, the Wolves (10-4-2-0) saw all 28 of their shots turned away. It was the Flames' first shutout in franchise history and pushed their winning streak to six games.

Adirondack (9-6-1-0) opened scoring on its first power play of the game. The Flames set up a passing play with the man-advantage to set up center Mathieu Tousignant alone in the crease to bury the puck for a 1-0 lead at 14:15.

The home team extended their lead at 15:18 in the second period, again thanks to special teams. With the Wolves on the power play, center Corban Knight got behind the defense for a shorthanded breakaway and beat Jordan Binnington with a backhand-to-forehand move, flipping it over the netminder's outstretched leg.

With the Wolves pressuring late in the game, the Flames sealed the win with an empty-net goal by right wing Brodie Reid with 38 seconds remaining.

Binnington kicked out 15 of 17 shots but saw his five-game winning streak snapped while Ortio stopped all 28 shots to improve to 7-3-1.

Chicago's nine-game road trip concludes at 7 p.m. Friday in Milwaukee.
