
Springfield Falcons Release Defenseman Mike Cornell from PTO

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons have released defenseman Mike Cornell from his professional tryout contract, Falcons Director of Hockey Operations Bruce Landon announced today.
Cornell, 26, appeared in one contest since signing a PTO with the Falcons on Nov. 13, where he picked up an assist and a +1 rating. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound defenseman has played in nine games this season with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL, where he earned three points (1g, 2a) and 15 penalty minutes. Cornell has appeared in 36 career AHL games, with the Falcons and Bridgeport Sound Tigers, acquiring 10 points (4g, 6a) and 78 penalty minutes. He has also skated in a career total of 47 ECHL games, tallying 18 points (3g, 15a), 79 penalty minutes and a +14 rating.
The Franklin, Massachusetts native had a four year career at the University of Maine, posting 29 points (5g, 24a) to go along with 139 penalty minutes in 128 games. Prior to his collegiate career, Cornell spent one season with the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs of the EJHL, earning 27 points (6g, 21a) and 80 penalty minutes in 45 match-ups.
