November 18, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release

The Oklahoma City Barons wrapped up a brief three-game road trip with a 4-3 shootout loss to the San Antonio Rampage at a matinee game this morning in San Antonio. The extra-session game for Oklahoma City was their second straight against San Antonio.

Matt Ford put the Barons on the board early, cashing in on good work by defensemen Jordan Oesterle and Oscar Klefbom at 2:28 of the first period. The goal was Ford's third of the season.

San Antonio would battle back and take a 2-1 lead to the first period. Bobby Butler scored his team leading eighth goal of the season at 11:45 of the frame. Defenseman Shane O'Brien gave the Rampage the lead at 18:08 of the period when he blasted a shot over the shoulder of Barons starter Richard Bachman. The shot on goal was reviewed as the puck went through the webbing of the net.

The second period featured several rounds of back-and-forth play in the neutral zone. Late in the frame however, Rampage forward Logan Shaw bulled his way to the front of the net where he put home the rebound of a Mark Mancari shot to put San Antonio ahead 3-1.

Oklahoma City would answer less than a minute later when Ryan Hamilton buried his seventh of the season. Veteran forward Jason Williams worked his way into the offensive zone and sent a shot goalward that was stopped by Rampage netminder Dan Ellis. Although Ellis was able to make the original stop, Hamilton was on the spot to bury the rebound.

Jason Williams tied the game at three with a power-play goal at 9:31 of the third. With Alex Petrovic in the box for boarding, Williams held the puck in at the blueline and sent the puck goalward, beating Ellis. The Williams goal gives the Barons a man-advantage goal in 13 of their 14 games this season.

Like last Tuesday, the teams battled through a scoreless overtime session, including no stoppages of play for the final four minutes of the extra frame. The six round shootout saw San Antonio score three times to the Barons two to give them the extra point.

Barons goaltender Richard Bachman stopped 32 of the 35 shots he faced in the shootout loss. Rampage netminder Dan Ellis stopped 31 of the 34 shots he faced in the win

The shootout loss for Oklahoma City drops their record against the Rampage this season to an interesting 0-2-1-2.

This season, there have been 46 American Hockey League games to go past regulation, with only 10 of them decided in a shootout. Oklahoma City and San Antonio have participated in two of them.

The Barons return to action this weekend with a pair of home games against the Charlotte Checkers. Faceoff for both games at the Cox Convention Center is 7 p.m.
