Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

CAMDEN, N.J. - The Sugar Land Skeeters lost their fourth-straight game after giving up nine runs in the fourth inning on Sunday afternoon at Campbell's Field in New Jersey, falling to the Camden Riversharks, 10-3. The Skeeters falls to below .500 for the first time this season, dropping to 8-9 on the year while Camden improved its Atlantic-League leading record to 10-6.

Dustin Martin, Patrick Palmeiro, Beamer Weems and Chris Wallace all extended their hitting streaks in the losing effort while Denny Almonte launched his team-high third home run of the season.

Almonte snapped out of a 2-20 slump in the top of the second, hitting a two-out, two-run homer to right off Rivershark's starter Sean Gleason, staking the Skeeters to their first lead of the series. Patrick Palmeiro extended his hitting-streak to eight games with a ringing single into left before a groundout ended the inning.

The lead for Sugar Land was short-lived, however, after Jeremy Barfield lifted Skeeter's starter Matt Maloney's 2-2 offering over the wall in left for a solo home run to tie the game at one in the second.

Dustin Martin extended his hitting-streak to 11 games with a leadoff double in the top of the third. The Skeeters' left fielder moved up to third on a groundout by Beamer Weems and scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Delwyn Young to reclaim the lead, 2-1.

Camden's offense came alive in the bottom of the fourth, striking for nine runs off Maloney to take a commanding 10-2 lead. Barfield and Mike Costanzo singled to lead off the frame and a one-out walk to Carlos Guzman loaded the bases. Eddie Sorondo hit a hard-single to third, pushing across the first run. After a fielder's choice cut down a run at the plate for the second out, the wheels began to fall off for the Skeeters. Brandon Chavez hit a high-chopper just over the bag at second with Weems unable to corral the ball, allowing Chavez to reach first on a single. Dan Hennigan and Ryan Strieby followed with consecutive singles. With runners on second and third, Maloney issued an intentional walk to Barfield before Costanzo hit his third home run in two games for a grand slam to stake the Riversharks a commanding, 10-2 lead and chase Maloney from the game.

The starting southpaw for the Skeeters took the loss in an outing he would love to forget, surrendering 10 runs on 10 hits with a pair of walks and one strikeout. The nine runs in the fourth were the most allowed by Sugar Land pitching this season.

Sugar Land would cut into the lead in the sixth on an RBI single by Almonte, driving in Young to narrow the deficit to 10-3.

Derek Blacksher provided 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, giving up just one hit to keep the Riversharks off the scoreboard. Cory VanAllen and Andrew Johnston also
