Frazier stymies Patriots, Gustafson closes it out

(Bridgeport, CT) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (8-6) defeated the Somerset Patriots (8-6) 2-0 to even their three game weekend series at TD Bank Ballpark in a battle between Liberty Division foes. Parker Frazier (3-0) pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing just five hits and striking out five. Frazier is now tied for the Atlantic League lead in wins, while lowering his ERA to a league-best 0.48. Tim Gustafson retired the side in order in the ninth inning for his second save.

The 'Fish got on the scoreboard first in the top half of the third inning on an RBI single with two outs by Sean Burroughs, plating Ildemaro Vargas with what proved to be the game-winning run surrendered by starting pitcher Lucas Irvine (1-2). Vargas reached in the seventh inning on a ground-rule double and would score an insurance run for Bridgeport on an RBI single off the bat of Nick Van Stratten, who extended his hitting streak to seven games and his on-base streak to 11 games. Vargas led the way with two hits overall.

Bridgeport plays the rubber game of the series in Somerset tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 p.m. and return home to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday, May 15th when they host the Camden Riversharks to begin a four-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CLICK HERE for tickets.
