Blue Crabs Bats Explode as Southern Maryland Beats York 14-5

(York, PA., May 10, 2015)---Southern Maryland's bats came alive in York tonight, as the Blue Crabs beat the Revolution 14-5. Southern Maryland scored in bunches and won their second straight series with their victory tonight.

Like last night, York took the lead first scoring three runs in the bottom of the second. Luis De La Cruz led off the inning with a double to left centerfield. Brandon Jones would then hit a blistering single to right field followed by an Andres Perez Sacrifice Fly to score De La Cruz. Johan Limonta would single, followed by Willie Cabrera getting hit by the pitch. With the bases loaded Mikey Reynolds would single to score Jones. Wilson Valdez would then knock in a run with a groundout to first to make it 3-0.

Southern Maryland would then take the lead in the top of the third by scoring four runs. Casey Stevenson would lead things off with a double, followed by a Jamar Walton triple to right field. Casey Frawley would then single to score Walton. Three batters later with runners on first and second, Zach Wilson would double out to right field to score Casey Frawley from second. After a Daryle Ward walk, Craig Maddox would double to center field to score Renny Osuna to bring the score to 4-3.

The Blue Crabs would put up another four spot in the Top of the fifth. Renny Osuna would lead things off with a single. Ward would then single to center two batter later. Craig Maddox would strikeout, and Fred Lewis would then come up and single to left field to score Osuna. Casey Stevenson would then hit his second double of the game to score pinch runner Tyler Wagner, and Fred Lewis. Stephen Penney would come out of the bullpen for York to replace starter Mike McClendon. Jamar Walton singled to score Casey Stevenson to make it 8-3.

York would score runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings. Luis De La Cruz would hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the fifth, followed by York adding a run in the bottom of the sixth, but Southern Maryland would pull away with three runs scored in the top of the eighth, and ninth innings. With two outs in the eighth innings, Casey Frawley would walk. Antone DeJesus would then come up and single to left. Renny Osuna would then hit his first homerun of the season, a three run shot to make it 11-5. In the top of the ninth, Craig Maddox would double, followed by a Fred Lewis walk, and a Casey Stevenson bases clearing triple scoring Maddox and Lewis. Casey Frawley would then single to score Stevenson to make it 14-5.

Blue Crabs starter Brian Grening picked up his first win of the season. The right hander making a spot start for the injured Brian Burres, went five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out two. The first three hitters of DeJesus, Osuna, and Wilson went a combined 5-17, while the bottom three hitters of Stevenson, Walton, and Frawley went a combined 6-14 for the Blue Crabs. Southern Maryland banged out 15 hits overall, while the Blue Crabs lineup also banged out seven extra base hits. Each team also used four pitchers out of the bullpen. Meanwhile, York manager Mark Mason was ejected for arguing a call at first base in the 4th inning.

The series will be completed tomorrow with game four of the four game set between the two clubs. LHP Rommie Lewis (2-0, 0.90) will throw for York, while RHP Shaun Garceau (0-1, 2.70) will throw for Southern Maryland. The first pitch is set for 6:30 P.M.
