Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., May 10, 2015) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 4-3 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
Both teams remained scoreless until Lancaster broke through in the fourth. A solo home run to left field from Brian Cavazos-Galvez off of Ducks starter Mickey Jannis did the damage. Cavazos-Galvez extended the lead to three with a two-run homer to left-center in the sixth.
Long Island would get their first run in the bottom of the sixth on a run-scoring double play ball from Lew Ford that plated Bryan Sabatella. The 'Stormers re-took a three-run lead in the seventh on a RBI single by Yusuke Kajimoto.
The Ducks responded though with two runs to pull within one in the bottom of the inning. Dan Lyons' groundout to short and Prentice Redman's RBI double accounted for the runs. Long Island got the leadoff man on in the ninth thanks to a Lyons single, but Lancaster reliever Cody Eppley stranded him at first to secure the win.
Lancaster starter Dan Osterbrock (1-1) picked up the win, allowing one unearned run on three hits and four walks while striking out two. Jannis (1-2) was saddled with his second loss of the season, lasting six and one-third innings, surrendering four runs (three earned) on eight hits while walking and striking out two. Cody Eppley notched his first save of the season with the scoreless ninth.
Sabatella led the Flock with three hits and two runs, while Ford chipped in with two hits.
