WNBA, Mercury Announce W25, Top 25 Players of All-Time, and Launch Vote for the Goat Campaign

As part of the league's 25th season, the WNBA today announced the "W25," highlighting the league's top-25 players of all-time as voted on by a panel of media members, basketball pioneers and women's basketball advocates. With the announcement of the "W25," fans will now have the opportunity to Vote for the GOAT beginning today and running through Sunday, September 19 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Fans may cast their vote for who they believe is the WNBA's Greatest of All Time by tweeting their selection with the hashtag #WNBAGoatVote on Twitter, voting on WNBA.com or on the WNBA App (more details below). The GOAT will be unveiled during this year's WNBA Finals.

The W25 players were selected from a list of nearly 75 players for their on-court performance and ability, leadership, sportsmanship and community service, and contributions to team success and the overall growth of women's basketball. Current and former Mercury players/coaches named to the "W25" today include:

Diana Taurasi (2004-14, 2016-Current)

Brittney Griner (2013-Current)

Cappie Pondexter (2006-09)

Cynthia Cooper (Mercury Assistant Coach: 2001-02)

Already referred to as the GOAT by players and fans alike, Diana Taurasi's historic career remains unmatched, with a resume that includes:

- Three-time WNBA Champion (2014, 2009, 2007)

- Five-time Olympic Gold Medalist (2020, 2016, 2012, 2008, 2004), joining Sue Bird as the only basketball players in history with five Olympic gold medals on the men's or women's side

- 2009 WNBA MVP

- Two-time Finals MVP (2014, 2009)

- 10-time WNBA All-Star (2021, 2018, 2017, 2014, 2013, 2011, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005), starting in all 10

- 10-time All-WNBA First Team (2018, 2014, 2013, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2004), the most First Team selection in WNBA history

- Four-time All-WNBA Second Team (2020, 2017, 2016, 2005)

- Joins Michael Jordan as the only players in basketball history to: win college AP Player of the Year, win at least one NCAA Championship, win league Rookie of the Year, win at least one MVP, win Finals MVP, win an Olympic gold medal, win league scoring title and be named to 10 All-League First Teams

- WNBA's all-time leader in scoring (9,163 points; no other player in WNBA history has scored 8,000 career points), field goals (2,888) and three-point field goals (1,203...no other player in WNBA history has 1,000 three-point field goals)

- Only player to rank in the top-5 in both all-time scoring and assists (5th)

- Three-time NCAA Champion

- Six-time EuroLeague Champion (2016, 2013, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007)

- Four-time USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year (2016, 2012, 2008, 2006)

- Has led the WNBA in three-point field goals 10 times in her career, the most times in WNBA/NBA/ABA history a player has led their league in three-point field goals...Stephen Curry is second, leading the NBA in threes six times

- Holds a WNBA career record of 14-2 in winner-take-all postseason games

- Only player in WNBA history to lead the league in both scoring and assists for a season, whether in the same seasons or different seasons...only six NBA players have done so

- WNBA.com voting page at wnba.com/goatvote: Fans can fill out one ballot per day (per day is defined as once every 24 hours) on WNBA.com/goatvote from a desktop or mobile browser.

- WNBA App: Fans can access the ballot through both the "Latest" and "More" tabs on the WNBA App, which is available on Android and iOS. Fans can fill out one ballot per day.

- Twitter: Fans can tweet in their votes for their favorite player with the below criteria:

o An eligible vote consists of:

- The campaign hashtag (e.g.: ##WNBAGoatVote) with the player name with or without a space (e.g.: Jane Doe or JaneDoe) or

- The player Twitter handle (e.g. @WNBAplayerJaneDoe)

o Retweets will count as a valid vote
