Phoenix Mercury News Release
PHOENIX - After clinching a berth to the team's franchise-record ninth consecutive playoffs last week, the three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury today locked-in at least a top-six seed in this year's WNBA Playoffs. With the top-six seed, the Mercury are guaranteed to host a home game in either the First Round on Thursday, September 23, or Second Round on Sunday, September 26. The Mercury solidified a top-six spot today by virtue of the Dallas Wings' loss to Atlanta.
The league's hottest team since the Olympic Break, Phoenix is 8-0, winning games by an average margin of 16.0 points, and winning seven of the eight by double-digits. The eight-straight wins matches the Mercury's longest win streak since 2018. Phoenix currently sits in fifth place in the WNBA standings, just 1.0 game back of Seattle in the four-spot and 1.5 games back of Minnesota for the third spot. Mathematically the Mercury could still climb as high as first place, but sit 2.5 games back of second and 4.0 games back of first with five games remaining in the regular season.
If Phoenix were to climb as high as the 1st or 2nd seed, the Mercury will earn a Round 1 and 2 bye before hosting Game 1 of the WNBA Semifinals.
If Phoenix finishes as the 3rd or 4th seed, the Mercury will earn a Round 1 bye and host a Round 2 single-elimination game on Sunday, September 26.
If Phoenix finishes as the 5th or 6th seed, the Mercury will host a Round 1 single-elimination game on Thursday, September 23.
Tickets will go on sale when playoff dates and rounds have officially been determined. Fans can sign up to be notified when tickets go on sale for 2021 Mercury Playoffs presented by Ballys on PhoenixMercury.com.
