
Fever Face Mercury for Final Time this Season

The Indiana Fever conclude a four-game homestand with a Labor Day matchup against the Phoenix Mercury on Monday at 7 p.m. ET at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. Phoenix clinched a top-six playoff spot in this year's WNBA Playoffs on Sunday after Dallas lost to Atlanta. With the top-six seed, the Mercury are guaranteed to host a home game in either the First Round on Thursday, September 23, or Second Round on Sunday, September 26.
Phoenix enters Monday now just one game behind Seattle for fourth place and have two games in hand on the Storm.
In the first game this weekend between the two teams on Saturday, Indiana fell 87-65. In the 82nd game of her WNBA career, Teaira McCowan became the second player in Fever history to record 100 blocks within her first 100 career games. Tamika Catchings reached 100 blocks in her 79th game back on June 26, 2004.
The 21 points in the second half were the lowest total for the Fever in a half this season.
Kelsey Mitchell shot 7-of-16 from the floor and passed Tammy Sutton-Brown to move into fifth for most field goals made in franchise history with 609. Tiffany Mitchell moved into a tie with Shavonte Zellous for 10th in franchise history in made 3-point field goals with 106. She has also scored in double figures in 16 of the last 17 games.
For Phoenix, Brittney Griner led all scorers with 22 points. Skylar Diggins-Smith and Kia Nurse each added 14 points, while Diana Taurasi was held to only two points. Griner and Diggins-Smith both enter Monday in the top six in the WNBA in scoring averaging 20.7 and 19.0 points per game respectively. Griner also still leads the league in blocks per game averaging just under two deflections per game. Phoenix, as a team, also leads the league in blocked shots per game.
