Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - Ronnie Gideon capped off a good day at the plate with a huge hit for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in game two of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Burlington Bees at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Gideon collected his fourth hit of the twinbill on a three-run, walkoff double with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Wisconsin a 4-3 victory.
Burlington (2-3) broke in front in the first inning against Wisconsin starter Jake Drossner. Jahmai Jones walked on four pitches to start the game, stole second, and went to third on a wild pitch. Drossner walked the next batter, but got Jack Kruger to ground into a 5-4-3 double play. However, that twin killing allowed Jones to score from third and the Bees were up 1-0.
Wisconsin (3-3) came back to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth. Tucker Neuhaus drew a leadoff walk against Bees starter Erik Manoah. Ronnie Gideon followed with a single to put runners on first and second. Mario Feliciano hit a fly to right that was deep enough for Neuhaus to try to move to third. The throw from right deflected off Neuhaus to the Timber Rattlers dugout and Neuhaus raced home with the tying run.
The game remained tied until the top of the seventh inning. Wisconsin reliever Miguel Sanchez, who had retired the first seven batters he faced in the game after replacing Drossner to start the fifth, walked Jordan Zimmerman with one out. Jeyson Sanchez followed with a single. Sanchez recovered to retire the next batter on a flyout to right. But, Jordan Serena pulled the next pitch down the third base line and into the corner in left for a two-run double and a 3-1 lead for the Bees.
Wisconsin fought back in the bottom of the seventh against Greg Belton, but there was a false start to the game winning rally. Jonathan Oquendo started the frame with a double, but he was thrown out at third when Trever Morrison's bunt went back to the mound and Belton threw out Oquendo. Then, Belton walked Ryan Aguilar and Monte Harrison to load the bases before getting a strikeout for the second out.
That brought up Gideon. The Rattlers designated hitter/first baseman went 1-for-2 with a double and drove in the only Wisconsin run of game one. He already had two singles in three trips to the plate in the nightcap. He got his fourth hit of the day when he pulled a 1-1 pitch from Belton to about the same spot of the field that Serena did in the top of the seventh. Gideon's double scored Morrison and Aguilar easily. Harrison sprinted around the bases and slid headfirst across the plate with the winning run to beat a throw that never happened.
The Bees had won game one of the doubleheader 4-1.
The final game of the series - and Wisconsin's homestand - is set for Wednesday night. Nattino Diplan (0-0, 13.50) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Andrew Vinson is the scheduled starter for the Bees and he is making his 2017 debut. Game time is 6:35pm.
