Cabrera, Brosseau Lead Hot Rods to Win

April 11, 2017 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Bowling Green, KY -To start off a six-game homestand a three-game series against the previously undefeated Lansing Lugnuts, the Bowling Green Hot Rods started the week in a Sountcentral Kentucky off right with a 4-1 win on Monday night afternoon at Bowling Green Ballpark.

For the Hot Rods, outfielder Eleardo Cabrera had a standout night both on the field and at the plate, starting in the third inning.

With Bowling Green down 1-0 with a runner on third and nobody out, Cabrera took a potential sacrifice fly opportunity away by throwing Lugnuts designated hitter Ryan Hissey out at the plate to limit the damage.

After sparking a Hot Rods three-run rally in the sixth inning with a RBI single, Cabrera duplicated his previous throw, this time gunning out Jake Thomas at the plate on a single from Yeltsin Guidino in the seventh to keep the score 3-1.

Overall, Cabrera has three outfield assists in just four games played. All three of the outfield assists have been at home plate, saving potential runs.

Along with Cabrera, the Hot Rods got a big night from second basemen Michael Brosseau. The 23-year-old infielder paced the offense with three hits, including a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to help secure the win for Bowling Green.

This season, Brosseau is 5-for-11 (.455) at the plate with two homers, a double and three runs batted in.

On the pitching side, Adrian Navas (W, 1-1) earned the win, giving up just one run on four hits through six innings of work. The six innings marked the longest start for a Hot Rods starter this season.

To give Navas the victory, lefty Dalton Moats tossed two innings of scoreless relief and Spencer Jones dodged a bases-loaded jam in the ninth for the save. Jones has converted on both his save chances this year and Moats has pitched four scoreless frames with six strikeouts in 2017.

The loss for the Lugnuts was their first of the year. Dating back to last season, Lansing has failed to score more than three runs in game against Bowling Green in 17 straight contest.

The Hot Rods will continue a three-game set with the Lansing Lugnuts on Tuesday. Lefty Kenny Rosenberg is expected to toe the rubber for Bowling Green while Lansing will counter with righty Andy Ravel.

First pitch is at 6:35 central time at Bowling Green Ballpark.
