Lansing Lugnuts News Release

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Right fielder Eleardo Cabrera threw out two runners at the plate, and the Bowling Green Hot Rods (3-2) dealt the Lansing Lugnuts (4-1) a series-opening 4-1 defeat on Monday night at Bowling Green Ballpark.

The Lugnuts have been held to three runs or fewer in 17 of their last 18 games against Bowling Green dating back to April 2016.

Lansing had its chances. The Nuts' only run occurred when Jake Thomas swiped home as part of a double steal pulled off with Nick Sinay in the third inning. Earlier in the inning, Cabrera cut down Ryan Hissey attempting to score on a Yeltsin Gudino flyout.

In the fourth inning, Bradley Jones tripled off the center field wall - only to be thrown out at the plate attempting to score on a Michael De La Cruz grounder.

In the seventh inning, Thomas doubled with two outs - but was thrown out at the plate by Cabrera following a Gudino single.

In the eighth inning, Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. flied out to the left field wall.

And in the ninth inning, the Lugnuts loaded the bases - only to see Gudino ground into a game-ending force play at second.

Bowling Green starter Adrian Navas (Win, 1-1) pitched six innings, scattering four hits and a walk while striking out five. Spencer Jones escaped the ninth-inning threat for his second save.

Lugnuts starter Osman Gutierrez (Loss, 0-1) blanked the Hot Rods over the first five frames in his Midwest League debut, but departed after a walk and a single opened the sixth inning. Bowling Green went on to score three runs in the frame against reliever Dan Lietz, thanks to an RBI single and two run-scoring wild pitches.

Hot Rods second baseman Mike Brosseau went 3-for-4 with a seventh-inning home run to cap off the scoring. In the losing cause, Lugnuts right fielder Thomas walked, singled and doubled in four plate appearances.

The middle affair of the three-game series is set for Tuesday at 7:35 p.m. Eastern, with right-hander Andy Ravel making his Lugnuts debut against Bowling Green left-hander Kenny Rosenberg.

The Lugnuts return home Thursday, a Labatt Thirsty Thursday featuring $2 beers/sodas and half-off craft beers, opening a three-game homestand against the Lake County Captains at 7:05 p.m. To purchase tickets, call (517) 485-4500 or visit lansinglugnuts.com.
