The Portland Winterhawks opened the 2024-25 campaign on the road against the Kamloops Blazers and Kelowna Rockets this past weekend coming away with two big wins to start the season.
Hot Hawks:
Forward Kyle Chyzowski tallied his second WHL career hat trick in the contest against Kamloops, leading the Hawks to a 5-3 victory. He added an assist to the scoresheet in Saturday's tilt against the Kelowna Rockets.
Forward Tyson Yaremko recorded a four-point weekend with two goals and two assists between the two Hawks' victories.
Goaltender Ondrej Štěbeták saved a total of 68 shots on net, backstopping the Hawks to wins in his first two WHL games.
Forward Kyle McDonough notched three points (1G, 2A) this past weekend, including the game-winning goal versus the Blazers on Friday night.
Forward Jordan Duguay scored his first WHL career goal in his debut in Kamloops. He also earned an assist in the game against the Rockets.
Forward Reed Brown netted his first WHL career goal against the Kelowna Rockets.
Forward Carsyn Dyck notched his first WHL career goal, short-hadned, against the Kelowna Rockets.
Play of the Week:
En route to his second career hat-trick and the Hawks first win of the season, Kyle Chyzowski caught a turnover in the defensive zone, hustled for the 1-v-1 breakaway, and deked out the Kamloops goaltender, placing the puck under his right pad.

Portland 5 vs. Kamloops 2 (Friday):
Kyle Chyzowski tallied the hat-trick, Kyle McDonough scored the game-winner, and Jordan Duguay netted his first career WHL goal to carry the Hawks past the Blazers, 5-2, at Sandman Centre on Friday night.
Portland 5 vs. Kelowna 3 (Saturday):
Reed Brown and Carsyn Dyck earned their first career WHL goals, before two tallies from Tyson Yaremko and a snipe from Diego Buttazzoni put the Hawks on top of the Rockets, 5-3, at Prospera Place on Saturday night.
