Winterhawks Hosting Family-Friendly New Year's Eve Party

December 28, 2009 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release

The Winterhawks are ringing in the new year by hosting their archrival Seattle Thunderbirds, and it'll be a party fans won't want to miss.

The fun starts as soon as fans walk through the doors, with a concourse carnival that will include a rock wall and mechanical bull on the Rose Garden concourse. The puck then drops at 8 p.m. when the Hawks will look to extend their five-game winning streak against the Thunderbirds.

Following the game, fans can either head out to their New Year's Eve party with time to spare, or ring in 2010 with the Winterhawks. Fans who bring their skates can hit the Rose Garden ice with Winterhawks players. At the same time, Dean "Scooter" Vrooman and Todd Vrooman will be hosting the first-ever Vrooman & Vrooman Show, as they interview players and coaches live at center ice as fans skate around them. Fans can submit questions for the show in advance by sending them to hockey@winterhawks.com.

Even for non-skaters, there's still plenty to do after the game. Along with the rock wall and mechanical bull on the concourse, there will also be a laser shooting gallery and skee ball after the game on the concourse.

The evening culminates in players and fans counting down together to 2010 in what promises to be a great family-oriented New Year's Eve event.

"Our New Year's Eve game will be a great opportunity for fans of all ages to get up close and personal with our players when they get to skate with them after the game," said Portland Winterhawks President Doug Piper. "Even fans who aren't skaters will find no shortage of things to do. It will be a great family atmosphere as we count down to 2010."

Fans will also be helping raise funds for the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation, who are the beneficiaries of the event. Since 1959, the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation has taken an active role in protecting the health of Oregonians. Through seven direct service programs related to sight, hearing and health assistance, the Foundation has transformed the lives of hundreds of thousands of youths and adults in our state. They offer consistent access and critical health solutions to the most vulnerable members of our community who are uninsured or under insured.

The best sports entertainment value in the northwest are Winterhawks 10+10 Packs: 10 tickets and 10 Hawk Eyes hats starting at just $12 per person. Contact the Winterhawks at 503-236-HAWK (4295) or seats@winterhawks.com for more information.
