Spokane Chiefs News Release

The road team did it again. For the fifth time in the Spokane-Portland season series the road team has come into the opposition's building and took two points home. On Sunday night, it was the Winterhawks with three third period goals to come from a two goal deficit and earn a 5-4 victory in front of 7,476 in the Spokane Arena.

The win gives Portland a two point advantage over Spokane for second place in the U.S. Division. The two will play again on Tuesday night at 7:00 in Portland and then won't face each other again until March 5th.

The Chiefs scored early when Anthony Bardaro danced around a Portland defender 2:08 into the game and slipped it through the pads of their goaltender, Ian Curtis. For the 17-year-old rookie, it was his second goal in as many games.

The Winterhawks tied it up at 9:29 on a Brad Ross goal but Kenton Miller's laser from the left circle beat Curtis to the glove side just 59-seconds later to give Spokane a 2-1 lead after one.

Levko Koper's 16th of the year just 41-seconds into the second pushed the Chiefs advantage to two. Portland pulled back within one at 7:43. Corbin Baldwin's first career goal, a snap shot from the left circle after a Miller face-off win, gave the Chiefs a 4-2 lead through 40-minutes.

Portland scored their first of the third at 1:12 and then added goals at 10:22 and then the eventual game winner at 16:12 by Stefan Schneider.

Portland outshot Spokane 41-33.

Mike Boyle will go on the air at 6:30 on Tuesday night on 1510 KGA with Comcast Hockey Tonight.

Tickets for all home games are available by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK or TIcketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
