CHIEFS ADD GOW TO ROSTER

The Spokane Chiefs have added defenseman Reid Gow, their first round selection, 16th overall in the 2009 Bantam Draft, to their roster. The 15-year-old will join the Chiefs for Tuesday's contest in Portland.

Gow was named to the first ever Western Canada U-16 Challenge Cup All-Star team in November while helping Team Manitoba earn a silver medal. In four tournament games, the defenseman had one goal, one assist and four penalty minutes. The 5'11", 175-lb rearguard is currently a member of the Southwest Cougars of the Manitoba Midget AAA Hockey League and in 18 games has scored five goals and 18 points and is tied for the team lead.

SPOKANE HITS THE ROAD FOR FOUR

Welcome home, now get out of here. After the Spokane Chiefs took eight days off for the holidays, they returned to town for one before they hit the road for four games in a six night span. Included in the trip is the annual Spokane-Tri-City match-up on New Year's Eve.

With them, the Chiefs will take the league's best road record as they boast a.733 winning percentage in 15 games. The Chiefs have posted a 10-3-2-0 record and have earned points (five wins and one overtime loss) in their last six games away from the Spokane Arena.

Prior to the New Year's Eve game, Spokane and Portland will renew their rivalry in the second half of a home-and-home series on Tuesday night. The road team has won the previous six match-ups between the two, including a pair of Chiefs wins on November 1st and December 6th in Portland.

The trip will end with their only game of the year in Vancouver on Saturday and at Seattle on Sunday.

Mike Boyle will go on the air 30-minutes before each game with Comcast Hockey Tonight on 1510 KGA.

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 29TH

AT PORTLAND WINTERHAWKS - 7:00

The Chiefs will travel to Portland for the third time this season. The road team has won each game in the six previous match-ups, including Portland's 5-4 win on Sunday night and their 3-2 win in the Arena on December 16th. The Chiefs had a 4-2 lead after two on Sunday night but Portland scored three third period goals for the win. Anthony Bardaro, Kenton Miller, Corbin Baldwin, his first career, and Levko Koper scored for the Chiefs. Spokane has won the last two meetings in Portland. The Chiefs earned a 5-4 shootout win on December 6th. Mitch Wahl had two goals and Kenton Miller and Mitch Holmberg added singles. Jared Spurgeon had three assists and Kyle Beach had two helpers. Wahl and Beach scored in the shootout. The two traded shutouts in each other's buildings in a home-and-home series on October 31st in Spokane and November 1st in Portland. James Reid stopped 34 shots for a 3-0 win in Spokane's shutout. Stefan Ulmer, Kyle Beach and Tyler Johnson scored for Spokane. Portland skated away with a 5-3 win on October 2nd in the Spokane Arena. Mitch Wahl, Tyler Johnson and Kyle Beach all scored for the Chiefs. The Chiefs and Hawks will play just one more time, March 5th in Portland. In six games Wahl has five goals and three assists while Beach has two goals and five points and Blake Gal has five assists. Spokane is 19-22 (86.4%) on the penalty kill.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 31ST

AT TRI-CITY AMERICANS - 7:00

The Chiefs will travel to Tri-City on New Year's Eve for the 20th time to take on the Americans in their fifth of 12 meetings on the season. Spokane and Tri-City are 2-2 in their previous four games. Spokane won the last match-up 4-1 on November 27th in Kennewick with goals by Tyler Johnson, Jared Cowen, Brenden Kichton and Mitch Wahl. Spokane outshot Tri-City 47-42. Prior to that Tri-City won the previous two games including a 4-3 win on October 24th in the Spokane Arena. Kenton Miller, Matt Marantz and Tyler Johnson, on a shorthanded penalty shot, all scored for Spokane. The Americans picked up a 6-2 win over Spokane on October 3rd in Kennewick. Levko Koper had both of Spokane's goals. Kyle Beach scored two goals and had an assist on September 26th in the Chiefs home opener, a 5-2 Spokane win. Mitch Wahl and Jared Cowen had a goal and an assist and Stefan Ulmer had three helpers in the win. Spokane outshot Tri-City 37-25. In four games, Koper has two goals and five points while Ulmer has five assists to lead Chiefs scorers. Last year, the home team won nine of the 12 match-ups. Spokane won the season series 7-4-0-1 with a 5-1 record at home. In its 21st year of existence the Chiefs lead the series 126-112-1-5 with 13 ties.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 2ND

AT VANCOUVER GIANTS - 7:00

Spokane will travel to Vancouver for their second and final game of the year against the Giants. Spokane hosted Vancouver on November 7th in their only other meeting of the year and Spokane skated away with a 2-1 win. Levko Koper and Mitch Wahl staked the Chiefs to a 2-0 lead before Vancouver scored their lone goal. James Reid made 24 saves and the Chiefs outshot Vancouver 26-25. The Chiefs and Giants have played each other the last two seasons in the playoffs with each team winning one of the series. The Chiefs defeated the Giants in six games in 2008 on their way to the Memorial Cup Championship and Vancouver beat Spokane last year in seven games in the second round. Vancouver won the first two games of last year's series before Spokane won the next three, including a four overtime game five in Vancouver that was the second longest game in WHL history. The Giants won game's six and seven, both in overtime. Mitch Wahl had one goal and eight points in the series. The team that scored the first goal of the game won five of the seven meetings. The Chiefs were 5-24 (20.8%) on the power play and Vancouver was 6-24 (25%) on the man advantage. The Giants earned wins in both regular season match-ups last year.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 3RD

AT SEATTLE THUNDERBIRDS - 5:00

The Chiefs will travel to Seattle for their sixth meeting of the season with the Thunderbirds. Spokane is 4-0-1-0 on the season against Seattle after the Thunderbirds won in overtime on December 18th. Mitch Wahl and Anthony Bardaro had Spokane goals. The last trip for Spokane to Seattle was a 3-1 win on December 15th. Levko Koper, Brady Brassart and Kyle Beach had goals for the Chiefs. The Chiefs also earned a 3-1 win on November 6th at the ShoWare Center. Kyle Beach, Blake Gal and Mitch Wahl had goals for Spokane. Wahl also added an assist. The Chiefs also earned a 4-1 win in Spokane on October 10th. The Chiefs outshot Seattle 32-24. The Chiefs are 18-20 (90%) on the penalty kill against Seattle. Spokane defeated Seattle in five games during last year's first round of the playoffs. The Chiefs and Thunderbirds split the first two games in Spokane before Spokane won the last three games of the series. The Chiefs were 4-20 (20%) on the power play and 19-22 (86.4%) on the penalty kill with two shorthanded goals. Levko Koper scored two goals and seven points in the series. Spokane outshot Seattle in all five games. James Reid made three starts during the regular season, posted two shutouts, a 1.00 GAA and.955 save percentage. In their nine game series last year the Chiefs were 5-3-0-1. Spokane was 9-26 (34.6%) on the power play and 29-31 (93.5%) on the penalty kill. Tyler Johnson had four goals, including a hat-trick on February 18th, and six points in seven meetings.
